Parsing
If you are playing a dd most raid groups that you try to enter will have some requirements for your damage output, and they will ask you to send them your parse.
In this article you will find out what parse is and how to parse.
Why even bother?
All trials become significantly easier in a group that deals a lot of damage, and some fights are just outright dps-check mechanics (if you can’t do enough damage the group will wipe). Requesting a parse from a dd is a way to make sure you meet those requirements.
Also analysing a parse is one of the best ways to find ways to improve your damage output.
What is a parse?
Parse is a detailed analysis of your fight that you can get with one of the addons that provide such analytics. While technically it can be any fight at all (and some raid leads ask for a parse on a specific boss), it is widely accepted that the most valid, accessible way of getting valid data is a parse on the Target Iron Atronach (aka 21M dummy or the Trial Dummy).

Ideally, your parse needs to meet those requirements to be a valid source of data:
- Full 100% to 0% HP fight on the Trial Dummy
- 100% uptime on so-called Power Pots (Essence of Spell Power for magicka builds: Corn Flower + Lady’s Smock + Water Hyacinth, and Essence of Weapon Power for stamina builds: Blessed Thistle + Dragonthorn + Wormwood). They expire every 45-47 seconds, so drink the next one as soon as you can
- So-called parse-food. A food that boosts one specific offensive stat, increasing both its pool and recovery of that stat
For magicka builds it’s Ghastly Eye Bowl
For stamina builds it’s Lava Foot Soup-and-Saltrice - Combat metrics addon
It may take you several attempts to get a full fight that you’re relatively happy with, but once the Dummy is destroyed, and you think that you’ve done well, you need to type the /cmx command in your chat, and take two screenshots of the window that just opened.
The first is the Damage Dealt stats:
